Bad day

First I got into a yelling match with a bus driver.

Then, and more significantly, I found out that my son has Asperger's. Not that the school psychologist is available to share any of the details until a month from now.

That's what you get when you don't pay for services.

I'll post later.

Just felt the need to share. Or vent. Whatever.

Yup, that sounds like a shitty day.

I had a little look around re Asperger's - looks like it's kinda tricky to diagnose. I hope you get the help you need to sort this out re proper diagnosis and treatment etc. I'm not overly trusting of the medical community myself...

Am wishing you well, sending you good vibes and hopefully some bloody useful angels your way.

Ariel, that's some major news. Take care of yourself.

When you're back - do you have an email address?

It certainly is major. And like Lucy said, take care of yourself, won't you? And also, a month is a long time whether you're paying or not.

Oh, wow. That's big stuff. I guess it probably answers some questions for you, but opens up a whole world of new ones. Hit me with an email anytime if you need to talk. I'll email you my skype details just in case. Big hug!

After the shock of hearing this possibility I think that it might provide a few valuable leads to parenting strategies and might make you feel less responsible for some of his eccentricities, which are not to hard to adapt to anyway.

Perhaps more importantly, Asperger's might help others to realise that those eccentricities are not wilful rudeness directed at them. I'm thinking of a particular mother you wrote about...

Dad

PS. Sars and I agree that F really is gifted at reading and writing unless a very narrow definition is used to exclude his obvious performance level compared to his peers.

Ah, well I understand the altercation with the bus driver...

The news about your son sounds overwhelming. All the very best.

Asperger's is quite different when compared to the others in the spectrum. Many children grow up to lead productive and happy lives. If you've not done so already, contact Autism Victoria http://www.autismvictoria.org.au/home/ for support and guidance. I wish you peace and much support in helping your child reach his full potential and happiness.

Ariel, that is a very shitty day. My brother has Aspergers, so I know what it means for a family. If there's any support I can offer via email let me know.

Hey Ariel, still thinking of you. Hope you're going ok.

Sigh. Almost everyone I know with a son seems to have something wrong with them these days.

very sorry to hear your news.
