And relatively unusual for men during that period, I think (I'm presuming you're roughly my age, here!)

KJ - thanks. I love those photographs (which is why I spent a few hours scanning from mum's photo albums last time I was in Adelaide!)

My grandmother was/is pretty brave. She told me the story of her wedding when The Husband and I were engaged, and I thought it was so romantic - like something out of a novel. Writing this made me realise that I need to find out more of her stories while she's around (which I'm thinking will be some decades yet).Arielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17570339715916432947noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33579237.post-67902969204436065012007-10-04T03:01:00.000+10:002007-10-04T03:01:00.000+10:00Great piece Ariel! I so enjoyed your slice of family history and the photos (they really evoke the time & place)
You've painted a great portrait of your grandfather and a lovely way to share those stories with F (& us lucky readers!)
I find that era (pre/post WWII) when our grandparents were young adults, fascinating too - and your grandmother sounds pretty brave as well!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33579237.post-67410210588208463222007-10-03T22:31:00.000+10:002007-10-03T22:31:00.000+10:00Lovely photos and memories. Two things stand out, but the one I can see in my mind, like a photograph imprinted, is of him sitting in his green velvet rocker, crocheted rug on his knee, me on his lap, being read 'Captain Kangaroo'. Losing him was hard.

Yes, my original blog was trashed. It was time to start a new chapter. A couple of people were dismayed and suggested I should resume, if only to hone my own writing skills. The entries are sporadic, but who's aren't?Watersheddhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05806629331225277927noreply@blogger.com
